In India, a government worker had a water reservoir pumped out to retrieve a cell phone that had fallen into it. The food inspector took selfies on a trip with friends in the state of Chhattisgarh, the Times of India reported on Saturday.

First he tried to have his mobile phone found by divers. When that was unsuccessful, he reportedly had hundreds of thousands of liters of water pumped from the Paralkot reservoir in Kanker district in three days.

The local television station NDTV reported that animals had often drunk from the reservoir beforehand. The inspector explained that official information was stored on the smartphone and that he therefore wanted to save it. In fact, the mobile phone – which was no longer working at first – was found once more, as it was further said. However, the man has now been suspended for abuse of his position. There are also investigations once morest several officials who agreed to the pumping out.
