Lots of Fokkersvreugde and Vorre cover Soulwax: “Video clip in De Lovie Castle”

Under the name Belpoppers, Veel Fokkersvreugde is attempting a cover of a Belpop classic for the second time during the Week of Belgian Music. After Zita Swoon last year, they are now giving ‘Too Many DJs’ by Soulwax a West Flemish twist. They get help from rapper Vorre, better known as the Ypres shoemaker Arne Deloffer.

Much Fokkersvreugde consists of singer Bert Cyriel Sticker, Maarten Kamiel Samyn on guitar, Tine Dael on bass, Peter Leroy on trombone, Kris Vangheluwe on trumpet, Joost Beernaert on alto sax and Pieter Bernaert on percussion. The group released its debut EP Keikop in 2022, with its own songs in the Poperings dialect. During the Belgian Music Week last year, they dropped the video clip of Min Band Met Vele Goeste: Disco, a cover of My Bond with You and Your Planet: Disco!, under the name Belpoppers! which they recorded in the Yper Museum.

“We played in the final of IJzersterk Talent, a music competition in which covering a Belpop song was one of the assignments,” says Bert Cyriel Sticker. “We liked that so much that we are now tackling a Belpop classic for the second time. We chose Too Many DJs from Soulwax’, which we turned into Too Many DJs. We also shot another video clip, this time in the Castle of the Lovie.”

Beatbox

This time, Veel Fokkersvreugde also attracted the Ypres rapper Vorre, the musical alter ego of Arne Deloffer, and DJ Nicolas Debonne from Bonnes Muziekcaroussel. “In the Soulwax song there are parts with beatbox,” says Bert. “We didn’t really know what to do with that, and suddenly we thought of Vorre. The result is impressive and I am very satisfied that he participated. It takes the song to the next level.”

“We shared the stage during the aperitif concert this summer in the Palingbeek,” says Arne Deloffer about the development of the collaboration. “When they asked to collaborate on Too Many DJs, I had some hesitation because the end-of-year period is quite demanding in the shoemaking industry, but I thought it would be a challenge to do something out of the box.”

However, it is not a real revival of Vorre’s music career. “I don’t have anything concrete in the works at the moment,” says Arne. “I recently did a featuring on the song Bottomless from the new ‘rule of 3’ album that Samurai recently released. Maybe the future will bring a single.”

New audience

The video clip of Too Many DJs will be online on Sunday, January 28. “Piet Candeel (VM Sound Ieper) was responsible for the live audio in the castle, Peter Leroy made the arrangement for Veel Fokkersvreugde and Joost Beernaert did the video editing, a feat… The intention is to hopefully reach a new and larger audience. We are also playing with the idea of dedicating an entire show to it in the long term, but that won’t be right away,” concludes Bert Cyriel Sticker.
