Then comes the pandemic. Dani – as Sarah-Jane’s manager – encourages her to try new things: pop, soul, numbers with his big band. Sarah does it but doesn’t feel comfortable doing it. The musical differences – he wants higher, further, more, she wants to go back to her roots – spill over into private life. At some point, Sarah realizes: “We’re not lovers anymore.” Without the two “projects” for which they pulled together – starting a family and Sarah-Jane’s career – there is not much left. The family dream is on hold, the career causes spat, and love has fallen by the wayside somewhere between the unfulfilled desire to have children and professional goals. “It was as if we were speaking different languages,” says Sarah-Jane.
