The Air France national emblem is no longer first in France. The airline is overtaken by Volotea, a low-cost Spanish company which offers more domestic destinations.
Many do not know his planes or his name. However, the low-cost Spanish company dominates the French sky, with 61 domestic lines against 58 for Air France. On the Paris-Tarbes route, Volotea has replaced the French company. For a one-way trip, the minimum cost is 45 euros. Since its arrival 11 years ago, Volotea has had the strategy of connecting the major cities forgotten by Air France, and neglected in favor of trains.
Reduced travel time
Nantes-Montpellier takes 1h20 by plane, compared to seven hours by train. The same example can be applied to Bordeaux-Strasbourg, where the journey takes 1h35 by plane compared to five hours by train. “They have managed to find a niche in which they are ultra-selective. That’s why that they went first in number of lines opened, but not necessarily in terms of traffic”, explains Xavier Tytelman, aeronautical consultant. But the criticisms exist all the same, in particular because of the excessive delays.
