Lower Austrian Association of Municipalities President Pressl: Needs allocations are made transparent and comprehensible

All distribution decisions have been made unanimously over the past five years.

St. Pölten (OTS) – “More than 90 percent of the main income of the Lower Austrian municipalities comes from the municipal tax and from income shares. About 10 percent of the income comes from the needs allocations – and serve to achieve a balance in structurally disadvantaged regions. What SPÖ NÖ chairman Sven Hergovich does not say in his unjustified criticism: If you look at the total income from revenue shares, municipal tax and needs allocations, in 2021 People’s Party communities had around 1,400 euros and SPÖ communities around 1,500 euros per capita. Either he consciously conceals this fact, or he once again shines with ignorance about Lower Austria and its municipalities,” states the President of the Lower Austrian Association of Municipalities, Johannes Pressl.

“Requirement allocations are made transparently and according to clear criteria. These can be viewed online. This ensures that the need allocation funds are allocated objectively and comprehensibly. Both the Lower Austrian Association of Municipalities and the SPÖ Association of Municipal Representatives were involved in the development of the guideline. The Court of Auditors has also examined the allocation of funds as required and, among other things, stated that there are clear regulations for project funding. All allocation funds allocated over the last five years were unanimously approved by the Lower Austrian state government – i.e. also with the votes of the SPÖ representatives,” said Pressl.

The guidelines for the allocation of need allocations are available here.
