The Argentine Lucas Guzmán won the silver medal in Taekwondo in the Pan American Games Santiago 2023although he might not beat the Mexican Brandon Plaza Hernández in the final for the gold.

The 29-year-old athlete from Merlo had beaten the Brazilian Souza de Melo in the semifinals, while Plaza Hernández had defeated the Canadian Braven Temuco Park 2-1.

The Argentine, who fights in the category up to 58 kilos, won the gold medal at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, while in Toronto 2015 he had achieved bronze. In addition, the taekwondo player holds a bronze medal in a World Cup, in 2019, in Manchester, England.

In the quarterfinals, Guzmán eliminated the Colombian Jonh Davi Garrido Reyes by 2-0, while in the preliminaries he eliminated the Peruvian Raymiguel Barreto Gómez by 2-0, all at the Contact Sports Center in Santiago de Chile.
