Lucerne Criminal Court: 18-year-old presses party-goers broken bottle in the neck

The Lucerne criminal court found a man (21) from the canton of Bern guilty of assault with a dangerous object and brawling, among other things. In November 2019, the then 18-year-old spent the night with four colleagues at Club Princesse in Lucerne. He was asked for cigarettes outside the nightclub by two party-goers who had also been at the club at around 6am and engaged in conversation. When the two left, the 18-year-old noticed that his wallet was missing. He assumed one of the partygoers had stolen his wallet and wanted to confront her.

An altercation ensued, with the 18-year-old hitting one of the partygoers on the back of the head with a glass bottle. The victim suffered a wound and a traumatic brain injury. He pushed the now broken bottle down the throat of the second party-goer. He suffered a wound on his neck that was eight centimeters long and one to two centimeters deep.

After the incident, the 18-year-old met up with the four colleagues who had spent the night partying with him. Together they went in search of the other two night owls. A little later, at a bus stop near the club, another argument broke out between the group of five and the two party-goers. The group of five hit the two with punches and kicks. One victim suffered a broken nose and a fractured orbital floor. The second victim suffered a broken nose.

The criminal court sentenced the 21-year-old to a suspended prison sentence of two years. He also has to pay compensation to one of the victims and he also has to shell out the procedural costs of around 8,000 francs. The verdict is not yet legally binding. Appeal has been filed.
