Lucid Group Opens First Electric Car Factory in Saudi Arabia: A Game-Changer for the Saudi Automotive Industry

Jeddah: Electric car manufacturer Lucid Group has opened a car factory in Saudi Arabia. It is the first electric car factory in the country. The car factory established in Rabigh King Abdullah Economic City was inaugurated the other day. This is the first car factory that Lucid Group will set up outside the United States. The car will be assembled at the Rabig factory. In the first phase, 5,000 cars will be assembled annually. In the future, full-scale car manufacturing will begin at the factory. With this, the Rabig plant will have the capacity to manufacture 1,55,000 electric cars per year.

Minister of Investment Khaled Alfalih, Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Al-Quraif, Governor of Saudi Public Investment Fund Yasir Al-Rumayan, President of Lucid Group Board of Directors Turki Alnuwaisir, Company CEO and Executive Director Peter Rollinson, Lucid Company Middle East Vice President Faisal Al-Sultan, ministers and diplomatic officials attended the event. Hundreds of young Saudi women will get jobs at the Lucid factory.

The electric cars manufactured at the factory will be sold by Lucid Group in the Saudi market and exported abroad. Rabigh Lucid Factory has received support from the Saudi Ministry of Investment, Saudi Development Fund and King Abdullah Economic City.

The Saudi Green Initiative aims to convert not less than 30 percent of cars in Saudi Arabia to electric cars by 2030. The plant will also help in achieving the goal. Earlier, the company and the Saudi government had signed an agreement to sell one lakh cars required by the government departments to the Saudi government within ten years.
