German airline Lufthansa canceled 800 flights ahead of Friday’s 24-hour pilot strike over a pay dispute.

The company said in a press release, published on Thursday, that it had canceled “almost all passenger and cargo flights for the day on Friday, to and from major airports such as Frankfurt (central west) and Munich (south). ), against the background of a strike planned by the pilots”.

The press release indicates that “the cancellation of the 800 flights will impact 130,000 passengers”.

Lufthansa said it is “trying to get its flight operations back to normal as soon as possible”.

In addition, the German airline has also warned against possible flight cancellations or delays for the days of Saturday and Sunday, according to the same source.

In this same context, the Lufthansa pilots’ union declared early Thursday that it was going to organize a strike, following the rejection by the management of the demands for a salary increase.

The pay dispute between the two sides revolves around the increase in wages for pilots at Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cargo, which have more than 5,000 pilots.

The union calls for a wage increase of 5.5% for this year, in addition to the payment of automatic compensation for inflation from 2023 and the introduction of amendments to the wage structure .
