A defective espresso machine has caused a Lufthansa plane to make an unscheduled landing at Boston, Massachusetts Airport. The plane was on its way from Newark (New Jersey) to Frankfurt on Monday evening (local time) when a smoldering smell developed in the first class galley, a Lufthansa spokesman said on Tuesday.
Since it was initially unclear where the smell came from, it was decided to stop in Boston. “Safety is always the top priority,” the spokesman said. After landing, the plane was checked by technicians, who discovered the defect in the espresso machine, which was repaired. According to the information, the guests were rebooked and were able to continue their journey.
Crew used oxygen masks
Several American media previously reported that the machine was on its way from Newark to Frankfurt when smoke was suddenly reported in the cockpit.
According to Flight Aware, the plane was west of Nova Scotia when it turned back to make an unscheduled landing at Logan International Airport. A Massachusetts police spokesman told Travel and Tour that the crew were using oxygen masks when the plane was diverted to Boston. According to the spokesman, 326 passengers were on board the machine.
