Former FC Barcelona and Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has agreed with his current club Grêmio (Brazilian championship) to terminate his contract in December 2023 according to information from journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Basically, the agreement was to end in December 2024. Earlier this summer, Inter Miami had wanted to acquire the 36-year-old Uruguayan, but without success. With this contract termination at the end of 2023, Suarez will therefore be a free agent in 2024.

Also according to Romano, Miami would like to bring Suarez freely in 2024.

The latter could therefore join his great accomplice Lionel Messi during the next MLS season, with whom he has not played since 2020. The two colleagues were part of the prodigious attacking trio called the MSN with Neymar Jr. In addition to Messi, Suarez could also find Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and possibly Andrés Iniesta (rumors), all former FC Barcelona.

In 31 games with Grêmio, in the first division of the Brazilian championship, Suarez has scored 13 goals and provided 9 assists this season.

Another player makes the leap to the Middle East

French left winger Allan Saint-Maximin has signed a three-year contract with Al-Ahli, the Saudi club announced on Sunday.

“We take the best and he’s one of them,” the Jeddah club said in one of many posts on Twitter announcing the 26-year-old’s arrival from Newcastle.

His name is added to those of Roberto Firmino, Edouard Mendy and Riyad Mahrez, other former residents of the Premier League, recently recruited.

The amount of the transfer has not been communicated, but it could amount to 30 million pounds (35 million euros) according to British media.

The player had announced the day before his departure from the Magpies where he had been playing since 2019.

“I’m leaving Newcastle leaving it where it should be and it’s my best trophy, because I was part of it,” Saint-Maximin said of the club, fourth in the Premier League last season after avoiding relegation in 2021.

Thanks to this fourth place, Newcastle, 80% owned by the Sovereign Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF), will play in the Champions League for the first time in twenty years.
