‘Vyšehrad: Fulfilling the Prophecy’ Arrives in cinemas, Featuring Šárka Krausová adn Lukáš Vaculík
PRAGUE – The highly anticipated sequel, “Vyšehrad: Fulfilling the Prophecy” (“Vyšehrad Dvje”), has finally hit Czech cinemas, bringing with it a fresh dynamic between actors Šárka Krausová and Lukáš Vaculík. In a recent interview, the pair discussed their experiences working together on the film, which continues the story of Julius “Lavi” Lavicka, a charismatic but often hapless football player.
Krausová revealed that “Vyšehrad: Fulfilling the prophecy” marks the first time she and Vaculík have shared scenes on camera. “Yes, we even had several scenes together, didn’t we?” she remarked.
Vaculík chimed in, adding humorously, “I’ve already been in her kitchen many times.”
Krausová elaborated on how Vaculík’s casting came as a surprise. Director Jakub Štáfek revealed the news during a table read, catching her off guard. “I couldn’t even beleive that it would be my uncle, that he had agreed to it,” she said.
Vaculík echoed her sentiment, stating, “I didn’t believe it either… It mainly happened because Vyšehrad is made by really nice people. When it came to making a decision, I knew that I wouldn’t mind spending x number of shooting days with them.” He added that he watched the first “Vyšehrad” film, which allowed him to see Krausová “in the kitchen, at least a little bit.” He found the humor aligned with his own taste, appreciating its dark style.
When asked if they were the first choice for their respective roles, Vaculík responded with humility. “I have no idea how many choices I was. Maybe ten people turned it down, and then they were happy that someone took it at all. But I didn’t care at all.”
While football is central to the “Vyšehrad” story, Krausová admitted to being unfamiliar with the sport. “I don’t understand it at all,” she confessed. Vaculík, a self-proclaimed Sparta Prague fan, playfully added, “… Šárka plays well, but mainly with her hands.”
Krausová quipped,”I don’t even know what offside, backside is. Does that exist?” with Vaculík responding, “Well, you’re off with that backside…”
Despite her lack of football knowlege, Krausová insisted that she was cast for her acting abilities rather than her athletic skills. “You mustn’t believe everything he says… And I wasn’t cast in Vyšehrad because of football,” she stated.
Vaculík humorously recounted an incident where Krausová was asked to do the ceremonial kickoff at a match. “Once she was asked to do an honorary kickoff, and when it was getting dark and she still couldn’t hit the ball, they said: ‘Should someone else kick it then?'”
Krausová countered, “don’t believe everything he says!”
She did admit to an accidental encounter with a football during filming. Vaculík joked, “We accidentally hit her in the head with a ball in one shot when she was drinking coffee.” Krausová denied the incident, stating, “Don’t believe him. I didn’t meet the ball in front of the camera…”
In “Vyšehrad: Fulfilling the Prophecy,” Vaculík plays the coach of FK Smrkov. Despite his role, he claims to be a calm individual. “I don’t shout, I don’t swear. Not even in life. I’m a relatively calm person. I don’t get too upset behind the wheel either.I do swear, but I don’t raise my voice. It would be pointless anyway. Those involved wouldn’t hear me anyway.”
Krausová, however, believes Vaculík has the capacity to be a good coach, recalling his patient approach to teaching his son to swim.
“Vyšehrad: Fulfilling the Prophecy” promises to deliver the same blend of humor and football-related antics that made the original “Vyšehrad” a hit, with the added dynamic of Krausová and Vaculík’s on-screen collaboration.
