In 2013, the Schiefermair family decided that the youngest member of the family would dedicate themselves to viticulture. The graduate of the Klosterneuburg Viticulture School started with just 0.3 hectares. Heavy clay soils with good water holding capacity in southern locations were chosen. The starting signal was given with the grape varieties Gelber Muskateller, Pinot Blanc and Müller-Thurgau, which were processed into a mixed batch. Today, 6 hectares of vineyards are already being cultivated and some varieties have been added.
Grüner Veltliner likes it
The current vintage’s Grüner Veltliner is particularly popular. Very yellow-fruity like pear and apple with subtle spice and a refreshing acid-extract-alcohol structure, the local flagship variety is a universal companion. Last year, for the young winemaker’s wedding, a small oak barrel was installed, which was filled with an exciting cuvée of Grüner Veltliner, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay from the 2023 vintage. The cuvée was allowed to lie dormant in a small barrel for 6 months and can now be enjoyed as a Cuvée Credo.
The portfolio of the Genusshof (a true pleasure center with a delightful garden house, an attractive ballroom and well-equipped rooms) will soon be expanding when it comes to wine: Blaufränkisch, Cabernet Sauvignon and Blauer Wildbacher are in the starting blocks. For the winemaker with heart and soul, the latter is an expressive variety with which he wants to play all the pieces: as a cuvée partner, rosé or even as a Blanc de Noir pressed at the same time.
In the medium term, Lukas wants to promote cooperation in our state in order to achieve an optimal market presence in general. His personal winemaking goal is to be one of the recognized wineries in Austria. It’s great that we have something like this “on our doorstep”!
