Lukashenko calls for an end to the war

– Let’s sit down at the negotiating table and put an end to this mess. Neither the Ukrainian people nor the Russians nor the Belarusians need it. The West needs it, says Lukashenko in a two-hour interview with a Russian radio station.

He believes that only “high-ranking people of American origin” want the war between Ukraine and Russia to continue, and he also claims that the West wants Ukraine and Russia to destroy each other.

Lukashenko is one of President Vladimir Putin’s most important allies. He has allowed Russian soldiers to use Belarusian territory to attack Ukraine, but without supporting Putin with his own soldiers. However, last year he allowed Russia to deploy nuclear weapons on Belarusian territory.

The interview is being conducted at a time when fighting is in full swing in the Russian region of Kursk, after thousands of Ukrainian soldiers crossed the border and launched an offensive on Russian territory on August 6.

The interview with Lukashenko was published on Thursday on the president’s own website. Here he also claims that the West is betting that the fighting in Kursk will be so destabilizing that it will eventually end in upheavals in both Russia and Belarus.

Ukraine may attack Belarus, he believes.

– We do not want an escalation, and we do not want a war with the whole of NATO. We don’t want that. But if Ukraine provokes Belarus, we will have no other choice, he says.

Ukraine has not yet commented on Lukashenko’s statements.
