Luxembourg: no fuels from Russia

by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

Since February 5, Russian petrol and diesel have been banned from European soil, following the embargo decided by the 27 EU countries in May 2022. “All European operators are required to respect these restrictive measures: it is forbidden to ‘purchase, import or transfer, directly or indirectly, crude oil or petroleum products if they originate in or are exported from Russia’, confines itself to saying the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

However, the Russian oil company Lukoil has three points of sale on Grand Ducal soil. “Our fuels come from depots in Luxembourg itself,” says Els Ruysen, communication manager at Lukoil. “We have had no contact with the authorities, and customers continue to come to us because they know that we do not sell Russian fuels,” she adds.
