Luxfer’s Type 3 hydrogen tank mounted on a British hydrogen truck

[월간수소경제 성재경 기자] British commercial electric vehicle startup Tevva unveiled its first hydrogen truck on June 30 (local time).

Luxfer Gas Cylinders (hereinfollowing referred to as ‘Luxfer’) announced that it has been co-designing and manufacturing the system with Teva for the past three months, and has installed Luxfer’s ‘Plug and Play’ hydrogen storage system on a 7.5-ton large hydrogen truck.

The vehicle incorporates three Type 3 ‘G-Store H2 cylinders’ with Luxper’s unique liner treatment technology. Type 3 containers are manufactured by winding carbon fiber on a metal (aluminum) liner that has been treated with a film.

“It’s the world’s largest capacity, the fastest refill, and the lightest type 3 container in the world,” Luxper said.

Teva’s hydrogen electric truck can be charged at 350 bar and 700 bar, and can travel regarding 500 km on a single charge. Starting with the production of 7.5-ton hydrogen trucks next year, it plans to add 12-ton and 19-ton models.

Luxper’s G-Stor H2 cylinder was first applied to Wrightbus’s hydrogen-powered double-decker bus, which was first deployed on the streets of Aberdeen, Scotland last year.

The Type 3 tank has good airtightness thanks to the metal liner inside, and the filling time is relatively fast, so it can compete sufficiently with the Type 4 tank with a plastic liner.
