Mac sales fell, but the market maintained recovery in the 3rd quarter

In the ever-changing landscape of the global PC market, a IDC e a Gartner released their reports for the third quarter of 2023, providing important information about the trend and prospects for recovery.

According to International Data Corporation (IDC)global PC sales fell 7.6% year-over-year in Q3 2023, totaling 68.2 million of units. Among companies, the Apple was the one with the biggest drop: 23,1%.

Despite this decline, there is a bright spot: the market has seen increases in sales over the past two quarters, indicating that the annual decline is slowing and that the market may be moving past its trough.

In recent months, PC inventory has adjusted, with most sales channels approaching healthy levels, but device prices remain under pressure, which can be challenging for consumers and businesses.

Additionally, the industry is exploring options outside of China for procurement and production, while the integration of artificial intelligence into PCs is seen as a promising area for future development.

Me and Gartner reported a 9% drop in global PC sales over the same period, marking the eighth consecutive quarter of decline. However, a return to growth is forecast in the next quarter, driven by seasonal demand from students and educators, despite weak business demand for PCs.

A Lenovo led the market with a 25.1% share, with a drop in shipments. A HP was the only one to register year-on-year growth, while Dell faced its sixth consecutive quarter of decline due to weak business demand for PCs.

As verified by IDC, Gartner also pointed out a sharp drop in Mac sales, which accounted for 9,7% do market share not period.

Gartner has projected 4.9% growth for the global PC market in 2024, with expectations of growth in both the enterprise and consumer sectors contributing to the recovery.
