What is the release date of Machine Head’s new album, “UNATØNED?
Archyde News Exclusive: A Conversation with robb Flynn of Machine Head
In anticipation of their eleventh studio album, “UNATØNED,” we got a chance too sit down with Machine Head’s frontman, Robb Flynn, to discuss the new single, “Unbøund,” the upcoming album, and what fans can expect from the upcoming tour.
An Evolution in Sound
So Robb, “Unbøund” is the first taste we’ve had of “UNATØNED.” Can you tell us a bit about how the new single came together?
“Yeah, sure! So, we wanted this album to be more focused and impactful, you know? shorter songs, more to the point. ‘Unbøund’ is a great exmaple of that. It’s got thisMoney Shot riff that just fucking rips, and I think it really shows the evolution of our sound.”
Rediscovering Roots
We noticed a distinctly American feel to “Unbøund.” Is that a conscious decision?
“Absolutely. We’ve always been proud of our Bay Area roots, but we felt like we wanted to dig deeper into that on this album. It’s a conscious nod to our thrash metal forefathers and the scene that birthed us. But at the same time, we didn’t wont to just rehash old ground. We’re still Machine head, after all.”
Crafting “UNATØNED”
Speaking of the album, the track listing is out. What was the process like putting it together?
“Well, as I said earlier, we wanted to make an album that was more streamlined, more impactful. We had a lot of songs to choose from, so it was basically a process of elimination. We’d play a song and ask ourselves, ‘Does this song make us feels something? Does it move us?’ If it didn’t, it was out. It was tough, but I think it made for a stronger album.”
Touring with Titans
Machine Head will be hitting the road with In Flames, Lacuna Coil, and Unearth this spring. That’s quite the lineup!
“hell yeah, it is! We’re super stoked to be hitting the road with our friends. Every band on that bill brings something unique to the table. It’s gonna be a wild, heavy show and an unbelievable experience for both the bands and the fans. We can’t fucking wait!”
Thoughts on the Future of Metal
What do you think the future holds for metal? Any advice for up-and-coming bands?
“I think metal is in a really great place right now. There’s so much diversity and creativity within the genre, it’s fucking amazing. My advice for up-and-comers? Stay true to your vision, don’t chase trends, and most importantly, support your fellow musicians. The metal community is a family, and only by looking out for each other will we all continue to grow and thrive.”
With “UNATØNED” set to drop April 25th, and a string of show-stopping tour dates on the horizon, it’s an exciting time for Machine Head and metal fans alike. Be sure to catch them live and pre-order your copy of “UNATØNED” through nuclearblast.com.
