Macron stresses support for European auto industry to face Chinese and US competition

French President Emmanuel Macron stressed the need to provide strong support and as soon as possible to the European auto sector in the face of Chinese and American competition, in an interview with the newspaper “Les Echos” to be published on Monday.

In the interview, the French president said that he supports providing strong support to the European auto industry, stressing that this support must be provided as soon as possible.

Macron will visit the Paris Motor Show on the day designated for the press on Monday, before opening it to the public on Tuesday.

The presence of French and Chinese groups dominates the World Expo, as companies such as Jaguar, Lamborghini and BMW are absent, which puts his future on the line.

However, after dismissing the holding of “Le Mondial de Lotto” in March 2020 due to the pandemic, and under difficult conditions for the auto industry, the size of the event has been reduced this year, as it is held for only one week, and the organizers expect the number of visitors to range between 300,000 and 400,000.

And no German company will participate in the exhibition, as BMW and Volkswagen, with its subsidiaries “Mini”, “Seat”, “Bugatti” and “Lamborghini”, preferred to be absent, after they invested millions in the Munich exhibition in September 2021.

There is also a noticeable absence of Japanese and Korean car manufacturers.
