“The time has come for a constitutional reform to introduce into the Constitution the penalty of life imprisonment and perpetual disqualification for corruption, treason and major crimes against the people,” Maduro said in a public event from Miraflores.

He added: “I call on the people to carry out a constitutional reform to introduce life imprisonment into our constitution and let these people rot for life in prison.”

Maduro assured that the PDVSA-Cripto corruption plot, which involved former Chavista ministers Tareck El Aissami and Simón Zerpa, caused him pain.

“I have to confess that, as a human being, the pain it caused me, but the wound is healed. There is no pain, what there is is anger and indignation, and what I am going for is forward with an iron fist,” he stated.

Currently, the maximum penalty established in the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is 30 years in prison.
