He wanted to do the impossible and is now paralyzed for life. The escape artist and magician Jonathan Goodwin (42) wanted to convince the jury with a spectacular stunt on the American casting show in October 2021.
As “Daily Mailreported that Goodwin attempted to extricate himself from a straitjacket while dangling upside down 10 meters in the air between two hovering cars. The cars would then collide and cause an explosion.
Shortly before that, the magician wanted to free himself and suddenly appear on the ground. That’s the plan.
He fell 10 meters and landed on his head
According to Goodwin’s fiancé, British actress Amanda Abbington, 48, the timing was misjudged. The cars were released too early, crushing the magician between them as they burst into flames. Goodwin fell to the ground, missing some sort of airbag that had been put in place for safety, and hit his head on the ground.
“He fell ten meters and lost a kidney, fractured both shoulder blades and crushed both legs,” Abbington said.Sun». He also sustained third-degree burns. His spine is broken and his spinal cord is severed. “He is now paralyzed and in a wheelchair.”
Despite the horror fall, the magician was responsive after the accident. He was taken to the hospital. Abbington can’t believe how lucky her fiancé was. He almost died in the stunt. “And when he was on the operating table, he almost died again,” says the actress. TV station NBC temporarily suspended production of the show. However, it has since been reinstated.
“Love is all you need”
The magician spent four months in the hospital. “His courage and strength is something I want to have too. He’s just a very happy and positive person,” Abbington said.
After the accident, Goodwin is back on Instagram. “Love is all you need, so make sure you get it, because it’s good.” Shortly before the accident he had proposed to Abbington.
Goodwin has previously attracted attention with spectacular stunts. In 2013 he dangled in a straitjacket from a flaming rope over the River Thames in London and managed to free himself. (ced)
