Around fifty planetariums around the world, including that of Nantes, are celebrating the 50th anniversary of “The dark side of the moon”, the legendary Pink Floyd album. This psychedelic journey into space launched, this Saturday January 13, the first edition of an astronomy festival in Nantes. Soaring immersion with Tom Rossi.
A captivating visual and audio experience. To launch the first edition of the astronomy festival “from the Earth to the stars”the Nantes Planetarium offers a space and psychedelic journey to the sound of the legendary rock group The Pink Floyd. 45 minutes of immersion in the stars to celebrate the album’s 50th anniversary “The dark side of the moon”, sold 45 million copies. Tickets for the six performances sold out very quickly, as in around fifty other planetariums around the world.
“We were lucky that the Pink Floyd producer said, “Hey, we launched the album 50 years ago at the London Planetarium, why not do something again with planetariums around the world for the anniversary?” , traces Véronique Dubois, the director of the Nantes Planetarium. So they created a film to illustrate all the songs on the album. On some, the visuals are historical with the lunar conquest for example or the photos taken by the Voyager space probe, and then, on others, we are more on images of the Pink Floyd environment: soaring, very colorful. There is something to dazzle the eyes and ears.”

Astonished spectators
We obviously find emblematic images of the group, such as the prism of the record cover and the pyramid of Giza. Listening to “Time” and David Guilmour’s guitar solo, the spectator is weightless. “I wanted to go into space afterwards.” smiles Mathieu, a thirty-year-old from Rennes who came on purpose. “It’s extraordinary, it took me back 50 years. When you’re immersed in the galaxy, it’s magnificent”confides Chantal, a little moved.
For David, “this album has not aged a bit, it has remained timeless. The sound with images of the Moon, the International Space Station, planets and asteroids is pure joy. We traveled all the way.”

The last three performances on January 27 are already sold out, but other events are scheduled as part of this astronomy festival. Until the end of the month, several exhibitions, concerts, screenings and stargazing are planned in the Nantes area.
