Magnitude 3.2 – Second earthquake in Lower Austria within one day

After the earth had already trembled in the Gloggnitz area in Lower Austria on the night of Whit Monday, another earthquake occurred in the same area on Monday evening.

The first earthquake in the Gloggnitz area (Neunkirchen district) occurred at 2:23 a.m.; the tremors reached a magnitude of 3.0 – as reported by the Austrian Seismological Service (GeoSphere Austria).

In the early evening of Whit Monday, the earthquake service reported another earthquake in the same area – this time the tremors occurred at 6:46 p.m. – the magnitude now: 3.2.
According to seismologist Nikolaus Horn, both tremors “were clearly felt in the area”. With such strengths, there could also be occasional minor damage.
