Lima. A strong 5.6 magnitude earthquake shook Lima and a vast area around the central coast of the country on Friday, leaving nine injured and homes affected, according to authorities.
The earthquake was recorded at 5:27 am (10:27 GMT) with an epicenter 19 kilometers northeast of Lima and a hypocenter 116 kilometers, as reported by the local Geophysical Institute.
Civil Defense indicated that it has reported nine injured people, including one seriously and damaged in three precarious homes in the districts of San Juan de Lurigancho and Ate, located east of Lima.
“Fortunately we have no registered deceased. We do have nine registered injuries, of which one is considered to have fallen from the third floor and his condition is delicate, “said Rolando Capucho, coordinator of the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) on N television.
Jeison Arapa, 28, suffered a severe fall from a third floor while trying to evacuate his home located in the Villa María del Triunfo district south of Lima, according to Civil Defense.
