Instead, he shared the slogan coined by Hamas and Palestinian extremists, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” – a demand that could only be achieved by eliminating Israel.

El Ghazi, who had only been in Mainz for a few weeks, shared three posts publicly on Instagram. The first was a post by his wife Melania Gallardo Robles, which featured El Ghazi with son Malik and the following text: “Yesterday I was walking through the city with Malik and he heard the sound of a plane. Then he said: airplane. All I could think about was how grateful I am that my baby heard the sound of a plane and not bombs. This is a gift because no government is doing anything to stop Israel.”
In addition, El Ghazi, whose Instagram profile picture shows a Palestine flag with the words “I stand with Palastine,” then shared a post that said: “How can the world tolerate those who harm children? I believed that we would treat the issues of child abuse and child neglect with the utmost seriousness and impose severe penalties for these acts.”
Attached to the post was a picture showing a child and a fighter jet with the location Gaza. For this reason, these contributions are clearly to be understood as anti-Israel statements.
El Ghazi also published another post that has since been deleted. Here the Mainz star apparently shared a post in which Israel is accused of genocide as well as “fake news” and AI-generated propaganda.
However, there is no mention of the fact that Israel is defending itself after Hamas’ terrorist acts, nor is there any mention of the fact that it is Hamas that is demonstrably carrying out propaganda.

The fact is: Hamas terrorists attacked Israel and deliberately murdered and tortured civilians – including women, children and babies.
Israel’s army, on the other hand, expressly warned the civilian residents of the Gaza Strip about its own military operation.
From Mainz’s perspective, El Ghazi’s behavior was particularly bad because Eugen Salomon, founding father of Mainz 05, is himself Jewish. Salomon was murdered by the National Socialists in the Auschwitz concentration camp.
As part of the club’s mission statement presented in 2021, Mainz, when asked about Salomon, still says to this day: “Eugen Salomon is a very important and influential personality of our club. (…) His work for Mainz 05 and his special fate mean a responsibility for us. (…) The appreciation of Eugen Salomon, the memory of his fate and the advocacy against any form of discrimination are and remain an important part of our club culture.”
