Mainz must be without captain Silvan Widmer during the decisive weeks of the season. The right side will be absent for the next few weeks due to a capsulo-ligamentous injury to the left ankle, announced the leaders of the Rhine club.
The Argovian was injured on Sunday during the match lost 3-0 on the lawn of Wolfsburg. The club did not specify whether the 30-year-old Swiss international could again be aligned in the final sprint of the championship, the last day of which is scheduled for May 27. The injury will be treated conservatively, it was clarified.
Currently 8th in the Bundesliga, Mainz is still struggling to qualify for the European Cup. The Swiss team should however be able to count on Widmer for its next deadline, June 19 in Lucerne against Romania as part of the Euro qualifiers.
