Arkansas State Police are actively investigating a pair of fatal single-vehicle crashes in Independence County that have claimed two lives in recent weeks, according to authorities. The incidents are part of a concerning streak of traffic fatalities recorded across the county since early August.
The most recent incident occurred on Sunday, Sept. 6, on Highway 25 near Cord, Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens confirmed to White River Now. That tragedy followed an earlier single-vehicle crash reported on Sunday, Aug. 30, along Highway 14 near Rosie.
State law enforcement officials are leading the inquiries into both accidents, though preliminary crash reports have not yet been made public. Furthermore, authorities have not officially disclosed the identities or ages of the victims involved in either collision.
Investigation Timeline and Recent County Traffic Data
According to state police records, the Highway 25 and Highway 14 incidents mark a total of six fatal crashes in Independence County since early August.
The grim tally includes four other deadly accidents documented earlier in the two-month window. State records show those prior incidents occurred on Aug. 3, Aug. 14, Aug. 21, and Aug. 22.
Both investigations remain actively ongoing as troopers work to reconstruct the events of the late-August and early-September collisions.
