A man died in a fire in an apartment on Werndlgasse in Vienna-Floridsdorf on Friday followingnoon. The victim may have set fire to the mattress in bed with a cigarette, the Vienna professional fire brigade reported.
The fire brigade was alerted to a fire on a balcony. The first team of the fire-fighting team climbed into the apartment via the balcony with a turntable ladder and found a lifeless person there. The man was handed over to the Viennese professional rescue service, which might only determine death. The fire itself was then quickly extinguished.
According to initial investigations, the man may have smoked in bed and set the mattress on fire. When trying to bring these onto the balcony, the balcony also caught fire.
