A 33-year-old man was shot and injured Thursday evening in the commune of Hautem-Saint-Liévin, the East Flanders public prosecutor’s office said on Friday.

The victim, of Belarusian nationality, was injured in the leg in Kerkouterstraat. Transported to hospital, the thirty-year-old was quickly able to leave the establishment following being treated.
The motive for the incident is currently unknown. An investigation is underway, added the prosecution.
The facts would, however, not be linked to the death of lawyer Claudia Van Der Stichelen, killed on Saturday at her home in Hautem-Saint-Liévin, the public prosecutor stressed. Claudia Van Der Stichelen’s son, present at the time of the attack, was also injured but his life is not in danger. In this investigation, the police notably published a composite portrait of the alleged perpetrator, on the run.
