A Driver’s Instincts Save A Life

On A Fateful Morning, While Navigating A Heavily Trafficked Highway In Virginia, A Kind-Hearted Driver, Identified As Beasley, Noticed A Distressed Animal On The Roadside. Unlike Other Motorists Who Drove Past Without Stopping, Beasley Felt Compelled To Investigate.

Pulling Over Safely, He Discovered An Injured Raccoon, Motionless And In Need Of Urgent Help.Acting Swiftly, Beasley Contacted Evelyn’s Wildlife Refuge (EWR), A Local Organization Dedicated To Wildlife Rehabilitation. “Without A Doubt, others Had Seen Her There,” Ewr Volunteers Later Posted On Facebook, Praising Beasley’s Decisive Action.

From rescue To Recovery: The Start Of A New Chapter

The Wildlife Refuge Team Arrived And Transported The Injured Raccoon, Now Named Beasley In Honor Of Her Rescuer, To Their Facility For Immediate Medical Attention. Initial Examination Revealed Severe Injuries consistent With A Vehicle Strike, Including A Damaged Leg And A Serious Eye Injury.

Despite The Extent Of Her Injuries, The Ewr Team Was Steadfast To Provide The Best Possible Care. The Raccoon Underwent Surgery To Remove Her Injured Eye And Received Medications To Manage The Pain And Prevent Infection. After New Studies, It Was Learned That The Mapache Had The Dislocated Sternum, So It Was Indicated to Continue With The Treatment Of Pain Until It healed.

A Surprise Arrival: Motherhood Against All Odds

Just When The Ewr Team Thought They Had Assessed All Of Beasley’s Needs, A Remarkable Discovery Was Made. Approximately A Month After Her Rescue, Beasley Gave Birth To Three Healthy Kits. An Earlier Ultrasound had Failed To Detect The Pregnancy, Making The Arrival Of The Babies A Complete Surprise.

“While Recovering, He Decided To Surprise Us With Three Young,” The Ewr Wrote On Facebook.”When We Arrived, We Made An Ultrasound, But Unfortunately, Pregnancy Was Very Early And We Did Not Detect That She Was Pregnant.”

Protecting The New Family

Following The Birth, Beasley Displayed Fierce Maternal Instincts, Becoming highly Protective Of Her Newborns. The ewr Team Carefully Moved the New Family To An Outdoor Enclosure, Providing Them With A Safe And Secure Habitat To Thrive.

The Kits Are Thriving Under Their Mother’s Care, Growing Stronger Every Day. The Plan Is For Beasley And Her Offspring To Remain At The Refuge Until The Young Raccoons Are Old Enough To Be Released Back Into The Wild, Estimated To Be Around One Year Of Age.

The Road ahead: Preparing For Release

Ewr Volunteers Are Dedicated To Ensuring that Beasley And Her Kits Receive The Best Possible Care, Preparing Them For Their eventual Return To Their Natural Habitat. This Rescue Story Highlights The Importance of Compassion And the Positive Impact That individuals Can Have On Wildlife In Need.

“They will Remain Under our Care Until Their Young Are Greater. Mapache’s Young Sometimes Stay With Their Mothers up To One Year. “
