Manchester United closed the summer transfer window after a quiet deadline day left manager Michael Carrick without late reinforcements. Over the entire summer window, the club confirmed seven incoming arrivals and twenty-four departures across permanent transfers, loans, and expiring contracts.
One area that United were looking to strengthen was left-back, but after failing to move for Newcastle’s Lewis Hall, their options remained limited.
Missed Opportunities and Uncompleted Deals
United had Racing Santander’s Jorge Salinas on their radar, but despite his move to Atletico Madrid falling through, the Reds chose not to make a move. Leicester’s Louis Page was also a player that United were working to bring in, though that deal was not completed.
Meanwhile, a loan exit for Chido Obi could still be completed with clubs in the Netherlands and Denmark interested, given that their windows remained open until Wednesday, September 2.

Although deadline day proved to be uneventful, plenty of business occurred over the course of the summer window.

- Kit Margetson on a free transfer, with compensation owed to Swansea City
- Cristian Orozco from Fortaleza CEIF for an undisclosed fee
Extensive Outbound Business and Loans
While seven players arrived at Old Trafford, twenty-four departures reshaped the squad through temporary loans, permanent sales, and expiring contracts.
Permanent sales included Radek Vitek joining Middlesbrough for £14million, Toby Collyer moving to West Bromwich Albion for £3million plus £4.6m in potential add-ons, and undisclosed fees finalized for Ethan Williams (Peterborough United), Ethan Ennis (Stockport County), James Scanlon (Arsenal), Habeeb Ogunneye (Arsenal), and Louis Jackson (St Mirren).
Departures on Expiring Terms
The club’s outgoing ledger also recorded several players leaving upon the expiration of their contracts. Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia, Jadon Sancho, Sonny Aljofree, James Bailey, and Malachi Sharpe all departed at the end of their respective deals.
With the squad overhaul complete and the window firmly shut, Carrick must work with the assembled group following a deadline day that ultimately failed to deliver the final defensive targets the club had explored.
