A man appeared in court in Veurne (West Flanders) on Tuesday morning for locking a woman in her apartment for a day, reports HLN. He had just met her on a dating site. “Suddenly I lost control,” he explained. The accused now faces three years in prison.
The victim came to the police station on January 9 to say that she had just been held for a day in a man’s apartment in De Panne. He was arrested by law enforcement. “They met on January 2 on Badoo,” the prosecutor said during the hearing. “She came to the coast for several days. Everything was going well at first, until the defendant returned home after running errands on January 8. He saw that the dishes had not been done, that plates had been forgotten. An argument ensued and the situation escalated”.
The woman did decide to pack her bags, but when she wanted to leave the apartment, the individual had removed the keys from the lock. Locked up, she could not leave until the next day. The defendant also had to answer for a second offense dating back to May 2022. He allegedly drugged another woman with drugs in a glass of water to steal a ring and clothes from her.
“It’s really pathetic. This man is only looking for love and affection,” pleaded his lawyer. “On his date, he reacted in the wrong way. This should never have happened. But he vehemently denies the theft from the other woman. The latter had forgotten a lot of clothes, perfume and a ring when she left her apartment. Why would he steal women’s clothes? Verdict expected May 9.
