While an increase in cases of viruses and infections has been recorded in the region, the Integrated Health and Social Services Center of Lanaudière (CISSS) wishes to raise awareness among the population in addition to providing parents with the necessary information to better understand and manage their children’s health problems.

To begin with, the CISSS de Lanaudière mentions that certain infections such as colds, flu and gastro can be treated at home.

The organization adds that the following measures can help reduce the risk of spread:

Perform nasal hygiene techniques regularly to prevent the accumulation of secretions in your child and thus reduce the risk of complications, such as ear infections; Wash your hands and those of your children regularly, for at least 20 seconds, with soap and water or with a hydroalcoholic solution. Also teach your children how to wash their hands properly; Check that your child’s vaccination record is up to date; Stay at home if you or your child has a fever; Prioritize wearing a mask in case of cough, sore throat and nasal congestion.

In addition, the Integrated Health and Social Services Center of Lanaudière reminds us that other options exist instead of going to the emergency room.

For example, Info-Santé is available by calling 811 (option 1) if the population has questions about the state of health of a child, but the child does not require an emergency consultation. A priority line exists for children aged 0 to 17. If a child requires a consultation, the call will be transferred to a telephone center which will act as a guide to the right resources.

If this applies, it is advisable to contact your family doctor or make an appointment online at Rendez-vous santé Québec (RVSQ).

Parents whose child does not have access to a family doctor are invited to contact the First Line Access Desk (811, option 3) so that teams dedicated to orphan patients can assess the situation and support them. to find a medical consultation.

The last recommendation is to consult a pharmacist for advice. He will then be able to propose solutions with the aim of reducing the symptoms and improving the child’s comfort during the healing period.
