Manchester City Officially Signs Mateo Kovacic as Ilkay Gundogan’s Replacement

2023-06-27 17:35:00

Ilkay Gundogan joined FC Barcelona on Monday. And this Tuesday, it was his replacement who was made official at Manchester City. Mateo Kovacic leaves Chelsea to join the English champions. The Croatian midfielder signed against a compensation of 30 million pounds (34.9 million euros), bonus included. He is committed until 2027 with the Citizens.

Widely used since his arrival at Chelsea in 2018, the 29-year-old Croatian international continues to be a reference in his position. Under the orders of Pep Guardiola, he will try to compensate for the departure of Gundogan, in a less offensive register than the German.

They are the best football team. Joining this team is truly a dream for any footballer,” Kovacic enthused in a statement. The Croatian, vice-world champion in 2018 and third in 2022 can count on a track record already provided.
