Manchester City, the European and England champions, signed yesterday, Thursday, with Belgian winger Jeremy Doku from French Rennes, on a 5-year deal.

And the media indicated that Manchester City, who won a historic treble last season, won the efforts of Doku, 21, for $ 70 million, noting that the latter’s contract with Rennes was to expire in June 2025.

Jeremy Duques, who is supposed to be the replacement for Riyad Mahrez who moved to Saudi club Al-Ahly, said in a statement to City:

It’s a great day for me both personally and professionally. Manchester City is the best team in the world of football so joining them is something very special for me and my family. I am a young player, and I have a lot to learn and develop. Working with Pep Guardiola and his staff, playing alongside these great players, will make me a much better player.

For its part, the club wrote, “Manchester City is the winner by confirming the signing of Jeremy Doku. The 21-year-old signed a five-year contract … until 2028,” according to AFP.

It is worth noting that Doku scored 12 goals in 92 matches in various competitions with Rennes, who moved to his ranks in 2020 for 26 million euros from Anderlecht, who began his first steps with him in the world of football.

The international Doku (14 matches, scored two goals) became City’s third deal during the transfer market, after signing the Croatian international duo Mateo Kovacic and Joshko Gvardiol.

City was active in the transfer market in order to compensate for the departure of the Algerian international, Riyad Mahrez, to Al-Ahly of Saudi Arabia, while it is expected that he will strengthen his midfield with a new player after his Belgian playmaker, Kevin De Bruyne, injured his knee tendons and underwent surgery that would keep him out of action for a period of 4 months.
