Just a few months following his arrival, he became general manager of the Mandarin Oriental, Marrakech where Alain-Thomas Brière succeeded him at the beginning of October 2023. The hotel complex located on 20 hectares of fragrant gardens and olive groves, a few minutes from the center of the city, has just celebrated its eighth anniversary.
Born in Zurich, Switzerland, and graduate of the prestigious École Hôtelière de Lausanne, the world’s oldest hotel training establishment, Marcel Thoma has German as his mother tongue. But, he also speaks English, French and Spanish fluently.
He now has more than twenty-five years of experience in the world of hospitality. After starting his career in Zurich, in the luxury boutique hotel Widder, he continued it at the Ritz-Carlton, in Spain and Mexico.
He then held several management positions at Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, New York, The Carlyle, New York and Swire Hotel’s The Upper House, Hong Kong.
