Mandatory levies: an even higher record

When it happens that the eye and the mouse of the editorialist get the wrong link on the INSEE site, this opens the way to interesting discoveries. Wanting to read the note on the inflation figure for the month of May, I clicked this Wednesday on the one relating to the “Administration account in 2022” . Debt, expenditure and public revenue: clearly, these are the (almost) final results correcting the first estimates of two months ago.

Well, we see that the level of compulsory levies, in 2022, was even higher than we thought until now. They amounted to 45.4% of gross domestic product, compared to 45.3%, according to data published earlier. The difference looks small, but it is really the highest rate ever reached in the modern history of France (subject to wars). Just see the INSEE curve here.
