In a heart-warming display of compassion, former Maguindanao Governor Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu stepped in to assist a local farmer who tragically lost her working carabao in the aftermath of a plane crash.
The Crash and its Impact
On February 6th, a US-contracted Beech Super King Air 350-B300 crashed in a rice field in Barangay Malatimon, maguindanao del Sur. the incident claimed the lives of all four crew members, and the aircraft was reported to be conducting intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) support for the Philippine military at the time.
Amidst the tragedy, Bainola Akang, a local farmer, suffered an additional devastating loss. Her carabao, a vital source of income for her family, was struck on the snout by debris from the downed aircraft.
Videos and pictures of the severely injured animal quickly went viral, highlighting the far-reaching impact of the crash.
A Timely Act of Kindness
Akang, visibly distraught in media interviews, pleaded for assistance in replacing her beloved companion, which had left a young calf. It was then that former Governor Mangudadatu stepped in, driven by his empathy for Akang’s plight.
On February 9th, Mangudadatu personally delivered a female carabao from his own herd to Akang in Barangay Malatimon. King Jhazzer Mangudadatu,the former governor’s son,shared the heartwarming tale on his Facebook page,highlighting the importance of the gesture.
“Napakalaking tulong para kay Babu Bairada at sa kanyang pamilya ang magkaroon ng bagong kalabaw upang makapagsimula muli at maipagpatuloy ang kanilang hanapbuhay,” he wrote.

It was truly heartbreaking to see the pain and desperation in Ms. Akang’s eyes. Losing her carabao, her livelihood in a way, was devastating on top of the immense tragedy that had already struck our community. I couldn’t stand by and watch her family struggle further.
