A fire broke out in a restaurant on Sporgasse in Graz around 4 a.m. on New Year’s Eve. According to initial information from the police, 21 people were injured. 18 people were taken to hospitals, including at least three seriously injured people who require intensive care, said police spokesman Fritz Grundnig in response to an APA request. The cause of the fire was initially unclear.
The fire broke out in the entrance area of the bar. According to initial findings, a pyrotechnic item was not said to have been the cause of the fire; rather, a technical defect was assumed. The investigation into this is still ongoing.
