Many Norwegians fear a third world war in the coming years

In addition, 55 percent expect a new armed conflict in Europe. This is according to a survey carried out by YouGov for the Institute for Peace Research (PRIO).

– Our findings reveal a worrying expectation among Norwegians that we are on the brink of significant global unrest, with fears of an impending world war and a new European conflict. This underlines the need for an increased effort for peace and conflict prevention, says PRIO director Henrik Urdal in a press release.

The PRIO survey shows that two-thirds of the Norwegians surveyed believe there are more armed conflicts today compared to 20 years ago. A majority also believe that there has been a decline in democracy worldwide.

Another survey carried out by Opinion on behalf of the Altinget shows that around three out of ten Norwegians think they will experience World War III in their lifetime.

– War in Ukraine, in Gaza and unrest in many parts of the world comes close to all of us. I am also concerned, which is why I recommended strengthening our own defense – and now we are getting a historic investment, says Chief of Defense Eirik Kristoffersen to Everything.

Kristoffersen highlights the importance of NATO in preserving peace in our regions. He urges the population to maintain calm and trust.
