No less than 481 applications were submitted, requesting a total of nearly 1.4 billion in subsidies, for the first tranche of the “billion decree”.
There will not be for everyone. The first call for projects organized within the framework of the “billion decree”, which closed on October 20 at midnight, was successful, since no less than 481 applications were submitted, for a total grant request of 1.367 billion, indicated the office of the Minister of School Buildings Frédéric Daerden (PS) in a press release. Not all requests can be met, since the tranche of subsidies released as part of this first call for projects amounts to 300 million euros.
A first tranche which should however allow an investment of more than 460 million, since a additional investment by organizing authorities is planned, alongside subsidies, which represent 65% of the cost of the work.
The “billion dollar decree” approved last April by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, plans to allocate 1 billion euros in subsidies for renovate school buildings over a period of ten years. Candidates who respond to calls for projects will be selected on the basis of criteria such as energy performance, improved connectivity, architectural quality or the installation of carbon-free heating.
The administration will now proceed to analyze the files, and Results of this first call for projects are expected in early 2024.
