Marc Márquez’s Dramatic Crash-Filled Weekend at the German Grand Prix

The short German Grand Prix warm-up earned Marc Márquez his fifth crash of the weekend. He suffers from pain in his right ankle and has a small fracture in his left thumb.

Marc Márquez suffered his fifth fall of the weekend during the warm-up of the German Grand Prix, Sunday morning, whose best time was signed by Marco Bezzecchi.

The Honda rider was catapulted into the air at turn 7 of the Sachsenring track, when he was on his second flying lap of the morning. He was in fourth gear and was reaching 160 km/h when his RC213V unseated him unceremoniously.

Heavily fallen, Márquez finished his race against the airfence, in a clearance yet deep. He limped off the gravel trap and needed a few minutes to regain his senses. Visibly very dejected by this new accident, he only returned to his pit once the session was over. The atmosphere was heavy around the Spanish champion, as this accumulation of falls seems to weigh morally today.

Márquez quickly rushed into his office, followed by the championship doctor. Although he got out of the truck a few minutes later, he did not join the other drivers for the parade. He went to the Quirónsalud center where he took x-rays. These revealed “a very small fracture of the first finger of the left hand” which did not prevent the doctors from declaring him fit. He also complains of pain in his right ankle.

On his favorite Sachsenring track, Marc Márquez is having a nightmarish weekend, marked on Friday by a horrible crash in the first corner, in which the Ducati of Johann Zarco was cut in half. Forced to go through Q1 because relegated out of the top ten places after the first day, the Spaniard fell three times in thirty minutes, again trapped by turn 1 and 13.

These very tough qualifications convinced him to lighten his attack for the sprint race, believing that a seventh place (the one he obtained on the starting grid) was not enough to justify such risk-taking, while the Honda is more treacherous than ever with its pilots.

Having missed three Grands Prix, Marc Márquez has already had 12 crashes since the start of the season, the highest number recorded by a MotoGP rider. It’s as much as his teammate Joan Mircurrently out with a hand injury, and thatAlex Marquez on the Gresini team’s Ducati.
