The former athlete and Chilean tennis legend, Marcelo Ríos, does not hide his impression with the talent of his new pupil, Juncheng Shang.
He continues to be impressed with his new pupil. Marcelo Riosformer Chilean tennis player, reiterated his surprise at the talent and game of Juncheng Shanga promising figure of the discipline who idolizes “Chino” and decided to add him to his staff.
After ‘Jerry’ Shang was crowned last week at the ATP Challenger in Lexington (United States), Ríos once again showered him with praise.
“Technically, he is very good, but tactically he still has a long way to go”, highlighted the ‘Chino’ to Third.
“The good thing is that he is a fast learner and I wouldn’t be impressed if the hueón jumped in quickly and finished 150 now and not next year,” he added.
In this sense, Ríos revealed that in his first days he worked to include a blow from Rafael Nadal to Shang and his response shocked him: “I tried to hit him with that right hand that itches more, like Nadal’s. We trained her one day and the hueón caught her shot”he expressed.
“I still don’t see him playing five sets, but what he plays, he plays very well. He lacks a good preseason, ”he added.
The changes that Ríos DT will try
Although Ríos does not hide his admiration for the talent of his pupil, he also considers that there are things that he must improve to make the leap to the elite.
“He always plays the same, he has all the shots, but he doesn’t know when to occupy them,” he assured.
In relation to the same, the ‘Chino’ expressed what his most urgent tasks have been: “In the return he backs down and, on the advantage side, I told him to stand in line and take a step, as I did, and there I hit him. So he can hit the other guy’s backhand, and he didn’t know how to do that. He learned it in a day and he does it perfectly.”
“His serve, technically, is the same as mine, but he threw the ball very low. Now he is pulling her higher and grabbing her up. I have also told him that the break is not a break if he cannot win his serve afterwards”, he remarked.
Note that Juncheng Shang, with his triumph on American soil, climbed to box 241 on the ATP circuit.
