After conceding only 17 points in the first half and leading by 13 points in the second period, Kansas finally trembled against Providence. Bill Self’s players even saw the Friars pass in front six minutes from the end (48-47). A reversal of the situation which will have the effect of an electric shock since the Jayhawks will sign a 7-0 to regain control with Jalen Wilson to support Remy Martin (23 points). Best player in the Big 12, Ochai Agbaji only scored five points, but his alley-oop gave them a seven-point lead (57-50), and Providence would never recover.
Upon arrival, Kansas wins 66-61, and affirms its status as the No. 1 seed. It’s the 8th straight win for the Jayhawks, undefeated in March, and in the next round they will face Miami, a 70-56 winner over Iowa State. The two teams have not faced each other since… 1991!
It’s also the 2,354th win in college history, and it’s a new NCAA record. That’s one more win than Kentucky.
