ÖVP student representative on the planned changes to master’s programs

Vienna (OTS) – The excitement surrounding the planned amendment to the University Act is inappropriate. Rather, universities should be given a control instrument for specific situations with which they can set qualitatively supplementary requirements for further study in a master’s degree, explained student spokesman Abg. Nico Marchetti. Specifically, in the future it should be in the hands of the rectories to set a maximum number of first-year students in German-language master’s programs and to regulate access either through an admission process before or following admission.

Fears or accusations that nationwide access requirements are planned are not only exaggerated, but are completely unfounded, says Marchetti. Without responsible control – especially in the case of master’s programs that are in high demand – there might be knock-out exams that are not effective, the MP concluded. (Ending)
