Marco Kasper waves his NHL debut with the Detroit Red Wings

Pleasant ice hockey news from overseas: The Detroit Red Wings are counting on Marco Kasper for the rest of the season.

The NHL franchise is bringing the 18-year-old forward to the team following his season-ending at Rögle BK in Sweden, which might soon see him make his first NHL stint.

The Red Wings are in danger of missing the playoffs this season. If that were to happen, there would still be eight games Kasper might play in for Detroit without activating his first year of contract.

Kasper was picked by the Detroit Red Wings in the first round of last year’s NHL draft and then loaned out to Rögle.

Because the 18-year-old’s season there ended prematurely, he was recently promised a handful of games in the Detroit Red Wings’ AHL team, the Grand Rapids Griffins. Now he’s being called up to the NHL team.
