Barbie star Margot Robbie has spoken regarding the unexpected inspiration behind the quirky Barbie character.
Kate McKinnon’s character was one of several doll characters seen in the recent “Barbie” movie, which has recently become the highest-grossing movie of 2023.
“Director Greta described the strange character of Barbie in the script as a cross between David Bowie and a bald cat,” Ruby said. “It’s very, very strangely accurate.”
Ruby added: “The strange Barbie reflects the Barbie doll that you used to play with a lot. You would comb her hair and then decide that you wanted to cut it. Then you would see what happens if you set fire to it and drew all over her face.”
“I had an idea like, ‘Okay, we should have a Barbie that represents the fate of many Barbies. I wanted her to be funny and wise,'” Greta explained.
