Camposano was born and resides in Miami, Florida, United States, her parents are Guatemalan and from a young age they instilled in her a love of her roots. That is why sport has become the perfect link to feel the colors Blue and White.
The athlete has become one of the promises in the 100 meter hurdles and high jump categories, in which he began to add successes representing a Palmer Trinity School, where he has had the support of coaches Joey Scott and Tahesia Harrigan-Scott.
María is 17 years old, she is the second of three siblings and the only one in the family with a passion for athletics. He currently holds the national sub-18 record in the 100 meters hurdles with the mark of 14 seconds 84 hundredths, which he conquered at the FSU Relays at Florida State University in Tallahassee, a few weeks ago.
“I fell in love with athletics from the first day I started practicing it. At first I shared it with dancing, but I told my mom that I wanted to focus on just one and since then I have been here and I love it,” shares Camposano in an interview with Free Press.
“I know that with dedication you can achieve your goals. I have always been a person that when I focus on something, I finish it. “I like to be disciplined and I do it the best I can,” she adds.
Of Blue and White
The sprinter has had the opportunity to represent Guatemala in two international tournaments: in the 2023 Central American Athletics Championship at the Cementos Progreso stadium, and in the NACAC U18 Championship, also last year, which was held in Costa Rica.
EMaría’s main long-term goal is to qualify for the Olympic Games. He is aware that Paris 2024 is very soon and that is why he has focused on doing the process to be in the 2028 edition. which will be based in Los Angeles, California, USA.
“I want to compete for Guatemala in the Olympic Games. OO. It’s something I’ve always dreamed of and I hope I can achieve it.”highlights the runner, who also assures that her father, Francisco, has maintained communication with the Athletics Federation and the Guatemalan Olympic Committee for support in said competitions.
Admire the national sprinter Mariandrée Chacón, who holds the national records in 100 and 200 meters. Now, the selected one studies and trains with the Jacksonville University team in Florida.
“I met her when I went to compete in Guatemala and Costa Rica, she is a great athlete. Now I see her often in competitions where she represents the university. I admire her a lot”says María Alejandra, who next year will begin her adventure at the university level.
Regarding the national record, he comments that it was a moment of great emotion because there were many people following the test. “I loved the support of the people, that encouraged me a lot to demand more of myself.”

At this moment Camposano and his coaches are dedicated to improving the time in the hurdle distance and the mark in the high jump. “The jobs are demanding, but the goal is to have better technique, as well as speed. I know that next year at university I will improve more”, he expresses.
