Mark Karpeles of MtGox wants to help users affected by FTX

Mark Karpeles, CEO of the famous and defunct exchange house Mt.Gox, has declared that he wants to lend a hand to those affected by the FTX case. Through his Twitter account, the businessman and programmer is seeking to contact the employees of the disgraced exchange, as well as any company that has invested in the company or has its money dammed up in FTX accounts.

“Are you an FTX employee? Does the company you work for have any exposure to FTX? I want to hear from you,” says the tuit de Karpeles. Then he clarified that he will need official documents or some source to verify the information of those who contact him, specifying that, although he does not agree to answer all emails, he will review each case.

Eight years ago, the Mark Karpeles exchange generated in the Bitcoin market a situation similar to what we have currently witnessed with the FTX case. With the company declaring bankruptcy as a result of a hack, thousands of people lost access to their money and the price of cryptocurrency fell violently. Karpeles was even accused of embezzlement and was found guilty of record manipulation.

Although the exchange debacle is still affected and users are waiting for their money to be refunded, Karpeles continues to be an active character in the cryptocurrency community, contributing to the ecosystem. Due to his past and his interest in continuing to contribute, Karpeles’s tweets generated various reactions from members of the bitcoiner community.

For example, Kraken co-founder Jesse Powell, affirms that Mark Karpeles has achieved a redemption story in the industry. With his name linked to one of the biggest cryptocurrency exchange debacles, the businessman still continues to bet on crypto assets while acknowledging his past mistakes. In this sense, Powell considers that Karpeles is a true “believer” of the ecosystem “who genuinely cares about the sector.”

However, despite Powell’s words, the Karpeles’s tweeter also filled with requests release money from Mt.Gox and questions about when the company will return the lost money. A few months ago it was speculated that the creditors of the exchange would deposit user funds before the end of the year, but they asked for an extension and now it is expected that the process ends in 2023.
