Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez plans to plead guilty to charges stemming from an October 2025 physical altercation with a truck driver outside an Indianapolis hotel, avoiding a trial originally scheduled to begin next week.
Legal proceedings for the former first-round draft pick are finally drawing to a close. Court records filed Thursday revealed that prosecutors and defense attorneys requested a hearing be scheduled for Nov. 9 or Nov. 16 for Sanchez to formally enter his guilty plea and receive his sentence.
The scheduled resolution comes after the jury trial had been postponed five times since it was initially set to begin in December. Sanchez, 39, faces a felony battery charge, along with three misdemeanor charges, for what prosecutors have said was a fight over parking.

The confrontation occurred early on the morning of October 4, 2025, according to multiple reports. Sanchez was in Indianapolis to serve as the color commentator for the Fox Sports broadcast team for a Week 5 game between the Indianapolis Colts and Las Vegas Raiders. According to a police affidavit, the altercation began over parking after 69-year-old truck driver Perry Tole had backed his truck into a hotel’s loading docks in downtown Indianapolis.
Investigators stated that Sanchez, smelling of alcohol, accosted Tole. Tole claims in his lawsuit that Sanchez entered the truck without permission, then physically blocked and shoved Tole, who then doused Sanchez with pepper spray.
When Sanchez advanced after being sprayed, Tole pulled a knife to defend himself, authorities said. Sanchez was hospitalized with stab wounds to his upper right torso while Tole suffered a face laceration, according to a police affidavit. Police records show that Tole faces a felony battery charge involving serious bodily injury plus misdemeanors including public intoxication and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, according to filings.
Sanchez told police at the hospital that all he could remember was grabbing for a window, the court document said. TMZ and Adam Schefter of ESPN were first to report the news of the stabbing. Broadcasting Career Fallout and NFL Background
The fallout from the arrest quickly extended to Sanchez’s media career, costing him his job as an NFL color commentator for Fox Sports. Max Porter, a CBS Indianapolis reporter, wrote on X on Thursday that the attack on a delivery driver in downtown Indianapolis last October cost Sanchez his broadcasting job, a sentiment echoed by Allison Papson of Fox DC on her official X account.
Before moving to the broadcast booth, Sanchez played for the Washington Commanders in his final NFL season, in 2018, going 0-1 in his lone start.
